History and Purpose

Our story

How it all started

One on One Partners, now One on One Mentoring, was founded in 1995 by Don McNeill. In 2006, Don connected with Mentor Kids U.S.A. in Phoenix to help launch a faith based mentor program in Tucson, now known as Mentoring Tucson’s Kids. Don retired as the Executive Director and Mary McGuire joined One on One Mentoring and Mentoring Tucson's Kids as the Executive Director in January 2019.

In 2021, the Board of Directors of Mentoring Tucson's Kids and One on One Mentoring made a prayerful decision to consolidate the mentor matches from One on One Mentoring into Mentoring Tucson's Kids to continue to support the mentoring matches through One on One Mentoring and move toward dissolving One on One Mentoring moving forward with all mentor programming with Mentoring Tucson's Kids

What Makes Us Distinctive

Mentoring Tucson’s Kids is a private, non-profit, faith-based organization with a mission of positively influencing youth facing tough life challenges through providing one-on-one mentor relationships with healthy, committed and caring adults.

Community-based

We are a community and faith-based organization working in partnership with local community organizations and churches.

Relationship

A relationship with a caring mentor provides at-risk youth with the capacity to grow in their personal relationships with their peers, their family, faith and their community.

Growth

Goals are set based upon assessments of the youth’s needs for spiritual, social and academic growth.
