Intern Job Description
(4-16 hours/week depending on internship requirements)
What are the Requirements for an Intern with Mentoring Tucson’s Kids?
- Complete background checks, reference checks, fingerprint cards, and personal interviews for potential mentor candidates.
- Lead orientation/training for prospective mentors.
- Coordinate matches between mentors and mentees within the community.
- Provide oversight of mentor/mentee matches ensuring mentors complete monthly contact reports and alumni mentee matches complete quarterly contact reports. Address questions and concerns from mentors and mentees/families about matches and provide support to mentors and mentees. Provide referrals for community resources as needed to mentors/youth.
- Coordinate with mentee’s parents/family/guardian, placements, and/or school counselors to support and encourage mentee through their match. Attend Child Family Team (CFT) meetings (as invited and/or needed) and follow up with any changes in mentee placements.
- Coordinate and conduct three and six-month interview follow-up with mentor and mentee
- Coordinate and conduct one-year interview with mentor and mentee (alumni contract or end match); generate completion certificates; coordinate time/place to celebrate completion of the first year of mentorship with mentor and mentee.
- Plan and attend monthly mentor events for mentors/mentees, including community service projects.
- Maintain necessary and appropriate documents and files on mentors and mentees.
- Assist with recruitment of mentors at churches, schools, community events, fairs, etc.
- Coordinate with schools, behavioral health agencies, churches, etc regarding referrals of youth for mentors
- Follow-up with interested mentor and mentee candidates to provide further information on the process of becoming a mentor or mentee.
- Complete quarterly program reports for the Board of Directors to review
- Plan and facilitate mentor support groups and ongoing mentor trainings with Executive Director
- Attend trainings as needed to improve skills and knowledge of mentoring youth
- Assist with program fundraisers as needed
- Assist with other program duties as needed

- Possess a passion for the stewardship of mentoring children; providing positive influence to those facing tough life challenges, to help them develop healthy relationships with God, family, and community with the goal of developing into healthy productive adults.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and professionalism in the workplace and in the community
- Have flexibility with work hours during the week and weekend
- Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
- Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or master’s degree program
- Willingness to attend weekly team meetings, pitch in on day-today operational needs during times of above-normal activities or during staff absences or vacancies
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a working car with car insurance
- Must pass a background check and be able to obtain a finger print clearance card
